A Life Skills Group Community Group
All are welcome to join our group. We're here to share advice, encouragement, and ideas on how to build better lives for ourselves. We can discuss all aspects of daily living, along with anything else that’s on your mind. Each of us knows a little, and together, we know a lot that can help us each to reach higher and go further in life. There's such a lot...
Would you like to share your dreams with us?
My dream is to be financially independent, and to feel worthy of being part of mankind. My mother still reminds me just how big a failure I am, and that is why I've given up trying. I need the courage and strength to stand up once again, like I've done so many times before.
Who else would like to share their dreams?
I have rented a cabin on a lake for the next 6 months or so. For that time period I will be LIVING my dream.
(Must be a result of all those yearsI spent at camp during the summer! Or else the fact that I live in MN and it seems like everyone has a cabin.)
Peace in my heart. Head noise stopped. Improved and improving spiritual condition. Gratitude. A balanced, useful, quiet life.
It goes back to the whole business about my "wants". When I became grateful for what I already had, I was made aware that enough is a feast!
Instead of getting what I want, I get to have what I get, and be grateful for it.
So now, I get to live in the middle of the dream I thought would never be mine.
Im afraid of failing.
There are other kinds of art that I do well, but i think it will be a huge blow if Im not good at this. I want it so much.
my parents always reminded me of how i am such a failure, that the daughters are good for nothing whores and women should obey men, always giving up (hey, they didnt teach me to never give up mom always gave up and my dad screws people over) so nothing was really taught for life skills.
one of my other dreams was to be a violinist and make my own music (that idea was from 4th grade and tried to play again in 8th grade) so since i havent continued with the violin at all, it would be very hard to go back to it. i also dream of having my skills be up to par and have lots of knowledge about different things if only my memory would allow it.
i also dreamed of having my own web design business from home but not up to par on web design yet. i dreamed of going into the IT field with my degree, graduated in 2010 bad timing after what happen in 08 and certs are too costly for me. i really dream of moving out been saying it at 18 but didnt have the life skills in order to keep myself alfloat and grew up being codependent. i am unemployed and dont have a job to do it yet.
one of my other dreams is to work in the green field again need more degrees and experience that is none for me dont want to keep going to school forever. i dream of having things simple in my life been dreaming this for a long time. i want to have my own place of a house/apt/condo/townhouse of no clutter, no terrible smells, no nagging, just peace.
i dreamed of being an artist i feel my art doesnt match up to other people's art. i am doing photography art havent done it lately been busy. i hate failing and been afraid of it, past teachers have told me i wasn't their star pupil they treated me like shit.
I got my first real one only about 7 years ago. Scary as heck getting it. My ex was totally unsupportive and I don't know that I would have done it while we were still married.
I LOVE it. It still had it's stressful moments, but I'll never look back
Go for it. Do it. It's not the money, it's ....well it's....it's the thing I was most afraid of, and overcoming that fear, has set me free....
I've been stressed trying to figure out if what I'm going to school for is what i enjoy doing and want to do for the rest of my life, and I've been struggling trying to find a job with more flexible hours so I can earn more of my own money and, eventually, become more independent and more confident in myself.
I want to use my skills and help people see what they have to offer to the world and just make people happy.
But most of all... I want to travel and experience new things and places. Oh, and live in my own cozy hobbit hole in a quiet area surrounded by lots of greenery.
Seems like we have a bunch of artsy people on here!
SnailAway, one of my professors told me that you can never get worse at drawing (or, in your case, painting!); each time you draw, you get better, even if just a little at a time. And art is something that's a part of us, so it never really goes away. You might not develop it like you could, but you never get worse.
To SnailAway and LadyTiger, art is an extension of yourself, so there's no "right" or "wrong" to it. Your art is specifically unique to you alone, and there is someone out there who will appreciate your art for what it is. You might own your own company/studio, or just be doing it on the side to make extra money, or for the heck of it. But other people's approval doesn't determine whether you're a good artist or not. It's only when you feel satisfied with it that's important. :)
I'm so glad that you overcame your fear, Patti! And you're right, it's not always going to be easy, but I'm happy that you love it and that you're in a better place because of it.
Congratulations on the cabin renting, ByzBee! I'm kind of jealous, that sounds very relaxing!
Do you have any particular part of America in mind, Beaumont? Such as, do you want to live in a place with more greenery, certain types of weather, or do you just want to wander around a bit until you find a place that feels right? But at least you have a specific goal in mind to reach so that you can achieve those other things! It seems a few of us are in similar boats, but we'll get there.
And very well said, BobCJ.
I do fiber art that is very, very good. I mean, I make it for family and others see it and want it. My dirty little secret is that I HATE to sew.
If I cant do well with sketching and painting I may have to go back to it to earn money. Home crafters dont make a lot, but I have so much fabric to work with.
This is weighing heavy on me right now and I would value advice from others, thanks!
