A Life Skills Group Community Group
All are welcome to join our group. We're here to share advice, encouragement, and ideas on how to build better lives for ourselves. We can discuss all aspects of daily living, along with anything else that’s on your mind. Each of us knows a little, and together, we know a lot that can help us each to reach higher and go further in life. There's such a lot...
But it's not always necessary to tell the truth either.
For example, I work with dementia patients. One's 95 years old and walking the halls at 1 in the morning and she's upset that her mother doesn't know where she is. (I'm atheist....but most people aren't. From her point of view (when she was mentally all there, her mother in heaven would know where she is)......so my response is "Your mom knows you're here, everything's fine, you're spending the night with us"
That's not lying (from a certain point of view), but it's not the whole truth either.
It also illustrates a point. There IS a time to lie, and that's when it's in the best long and short term interests of the person that you're lying too.
Now imagine this: You have been brought up or conditioned to tell people that everything is wonderful even when something is wrong. But something really bad has happened to you and it is making your life extremely difficult. You need help. Should you continue to lie and tell everyone that everything is fine, or should you find one or a few people to whom you can tell the truth, which is that everything is not fine?
the saying always goes if u lie constantly, there may come a day where u could be telling the truth and nobody will believe you.
-Exodus, chapter 20, verse 16
Past generations followed this commandment. If it was good enough for them, it is good enough for me.
