A Leaders Forum is for Group Founders, Group Administrators, and anyone who is thinking about starting a discussion group on the Daily Strength Website. We discuss how to start a group, how to keep it growing, how to keep daily activity high, and other aspects of managing discussion groups. Would you like to change the world? Here's a tip that might help you. Give your group a name that begins with a letter near the beginning of the alphabet. When people join your group, it will be listed on their personal page among the other groups they have joined. As people visit their page on the website, they will likely first go to the groups near the top of the alphabetically arranged list, and they may never make it to the groups alphabetically listed near the bottom of the list if they run out of time or energy. Best bet: choose a group name that begins with one of the first three letters of the alphabet. Next best bet: choose a group name that begins with a letter that is in the first half of the alphabet, or before the letter "n."
Of course, you can't always do this, and you don't always have to, especially if there is a word that defines your group so well that any other word just won't do. People will still visit your group no matter what, especially if you are doing other things to get and keep their interest besides "playing name games." Hey, look at Walmart - their name comes near the end of any alphabetically listed group, but they seem to be doing well.
You can change the name of your group anytime you like, but if you also want to change the link, you will probably have to contact one of the Daily Strength Website administrators by message for assistance. Because of laziness or just plain lack of time and energy, I changed the name of the Leaders Group to the Leaders Forum without also changing the link - I suppose I'll get around to it eventually, but for now, it seems to not matter that the name of the group is different from the link because I can keep it all sorted out in my head when I am sending invites or using the group's name and link for other purposes.
What are your ideas on group names?

You are right I do tend to go down the list in order when I pick the group I want to go to next. Of course this is helped by the fact that the groups I founded are always at the top of my list.
However if I were in a hurry I would go straight to the groups I am most interested in if I am not in a hurry I cover all the ones I want to anyway. Actually there is a benefit to being at the bottom of the list. If the other groups do not have much activity going on the group member may spend longer in your group if it is at the bottom of the list.
When it comes to renameing an existing group you already have, if it is a popular group I would advise against it unless you can find a way to rename it without causing confusion to group members.
I renamed one of the groups I founded
'Developing a Positive Attitude'
I did this because people in the group started using the acronym DAPA. Now the group name is
'Developing a Positive Attitude DAPA'
As you can see, this does not take away from the original name in any way but makes it easier if people recommend the group by calling it by its acronym.

If you check the business pages of your phone book, you will find that some business owners are so determined to get their business listed near the beginning of the alphabetical listing in the phone book that they actually place AAA or even AAAA in front of their businesses' names. That might be going a little too far...or is it?
