The Laughter Club salutes Jim Henson, creator of the much beloved Muppets, puppets with perky personalities, that appeared in The Muppet Show television series and Muppet movies. Jim Henson was born in Greenville, Mississippi, U.S.A., on 24 September 1936.
"Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?" In 1966, Joan Ganz Cooney began work on what was to become known as Sesame Street, a children's educational television production, which premiered in 1969. Cooney asked Henson to create a family of characters to populate Sesame Street: Bert & Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, Grover, Cookie Monster, and Big Bird (standing 8 feet, 2 inches tall!). These characters entertained, taught counting and the alphabet, and mastery of other educational concepts to children - and any adults - who happened by.
In 1975, production began at Lew Grade's ATV studios in London, of a new family of unforgettable characters: Kermit the Frog (show host), Miss Piggy (Kermie's beloved), Fozzie Bear, Animal, The Great Gonzo, and Rizzo the Rat, among lots of other zany characters. The Muppets were joined each week by long-forgotten human celebrities such as Steve Martin and Gene Kelly.
Later Jim Henson productions included Fraggle Rock, Muppet Babies, and a host of Muppet Movies including "Muppets in Space." He died in New York City, on 16 May 1990, but his works go on. You can visit the official Jim Henson Company website at www.henson.com

They were always around & wanted to spend time with you to tell you a funny story, sing a silly song, or help you learn something new. I suppose if I had to single ONE out as a favorite it would be KERMIT ( even though GROVER was a great example of the "underdog" that never gave up).
