A Laughter Club Community Group
We would like to invite you to join our group! A Laughter Club is for people who understand just how serious a matter humor is to one's survival and even to one's success in life. We share jokes, riddles, short stories, and other laughter-provoking thoughts. We have one simple rule: If you wouldn't say it to a child because it contains inappropriate...
it drains your pockets, stains your clothes
and makes a smoke house out of your nose..........
THERE YOU GO SHORT AND TO THE POINT, AND ITS A TRUE STORY ESSAY
It was Burleyâs birthday and she ask if she could have some of her girl friends spend the week at their big ranch in Texas. Her parents said yes but the Grandparents were going to look after the girls at the ranch. Grandpa's first rule was," do not be running my horses. It is too hot for them to be running. All the girls said yes sir. The slumber party took place at the big bunkhouse several miles from the main ranch house. Girls being girls were all giggly and acting silly and squealing. They hardly slept that first night. The next morning they were up and ready to go have fun. Grandpa came in and says, Ok gals, I got your horses saddled and ready to ride but remember what I said, âNO RIUNNG THE HORSES"
The 8 girl finished eating breakfast and out the door they went all excited. Berkley said, OK pick your horse. Each girl looked over the horses. They did not look much different. But Ann went to the biggest black horse. She asks what his name is. Berkley yelled his name is Speed Demon. Please do not let him run.
All the girls start to ride away from the bunk house nice and slow. . They got out about 3 or 4 miles away from the bunk house. They are having the time of their lives. This was great fun. Berkley said Hey yawl let take our shirts off and get a sun tan. So off come the shirts. The girls are riding slow and easy until a crop dusting plane flies over. It scares the horse a little. Berkley yells don't let them run hold them back pull back on the rains. All the girls control their horses. Just then the plane comes back this time a little lower and closer to the group of shirtless girls. Again the horses start to jolt. Hold them girl hold them. Don't let them run. All is well no horse ran. But again the crop duster come back and flies really low. Low enough to see that there are two guys in the plane and they are taking a good look at the 8 beauties below who do not have on shirts. These guys are now having the time of their lives. This time Ann canât hold her horse back. He bolt out like lighting struck him. Ann is holding on for dear life. Speed Demon is running a break neck speed and headed for the bunk house. The girls are all yelling stop! Stop him! But Speed Demon has other plans. He run down into the gully and up through some trees. Ann has to duck her head and hold on for all it is worth. A limb scratches her arm. Her foot comes out of one stirrup. Her heard is bobbing back and forth and her butt is hitting the saddle bam, bam with every stride the horse takes. The crop duster flies over Ann's head real low. This makes Speed Demon run faster at a full racing gallop. Ann is till holding on as best she can. That black Speed Demon jumps a fence. Ann almost fall off and goes sort of side saddle for a minute. Ann is trying hard to say wooooooo but no sound is coming out of her mouth. The wind is blowing through her long hair and the Seed Demon main is straight out. Closer and closer to the bunk house Ann rides. Then she remembers. "I don't have my shirt on! Speed Demon makes a quick left turn and again Ann all most falls off but hold on. Now Ann can see the bunk house not far ahead. Ann has had just about as much excitement as she wants for one day. Speed Demon seems to go even faster as he gets closer to the bunk house. Ann can hear his heavy breathing and the thuds of his hooves hitting the ground. Dust is billowing from behind Speed Demon as he races toward the bunk house. Ann is relieved that she can see the bunk house. She is praying the horse will stop when he gets there. Ann can see Grandpaâs station wagon parked out front. Speed Demon is still running so fast. Closer, closer and closer he is like jet speeding through the sky. All of the sudden Ann is flying through the air. Speed Demon put in the breaks right at the back of the station wagon and slid into it the reared up and ran off. Ann lands on the top of the station wagon, rolls off and hits the tail gate, falloff the tail gate on to the ground and lands on her back on top of a big cactus. Her breath is knocked out. She canât talk. The she sees GRANDPA standing over her yelling, Dagg Blasted girl, I told you not to run these dang horses.
All Ann could think was that she did not have a shirt on. She tries to cover her chest. By now Grandma is out there yelling a Grandpa. Sheâs hurt Pa sheâs hurt! Grandpa is still grumbling about the dang girl running his horses. Ann is trying to breathe and cover hurt chest and now she is feeling a lot of pain on her back side. About that time the rest of the girls ride up pretty fast and again Grandpa is madder that a hornet and storming out cruse words and kicking the ground with his boots. He looks up and see 7 other girls with out shirts on, He starts to speak in German I think no body could understand him. His hands fly up in the air and back down. He starts grabbing the horses and walking them to the barn. The girls run to Ann and help her up and take her into the bunk house. Ann is scarped and bruised and bleeding and in her back side are millions of cactus thorns on top of a sunburned back. Grandma and the girls start picking out the thorns and doctoring Annâs other wounds. Just then Grandpa returns still huffing and puffing and mad as all get out. He starts to yell again and Berkley stands up and says, listen to me Grandpa! It is not our fault. The crop duster guys flew over us several times and that is why the horses got spooked and started to run. You know Speed Demon dose that all the time when he gets spooked and you canât stop him. Go call, the crop duster guy and tell him what he did. He could have killed one of us! It was funny because, neither Grandpa or Grandma ask what we were doing with out our shirts on. It all end well and we all learned a lesson.
If you see a crop duster coming, get off your dang horse. HA, HA !!
Family Reunions and make for some fond memories. For the huge Bench family a reunion meant an army of peopl . It seems George and Ada Bench had passel of youngens 21 to my best recollection. There were so many kids they ran out of names so a lot of them were call just by two letters like JY, JD, LD, JC, and on and on. Now all the kids grew up and all got married and all of them had a passel of kids of their ownand it kept growing on down generarion to generation . George and Ada raised their family on a Texas farm / ranch near Gram Texas, a very small town a bit east of Fort Worth. Their kids all moved to different parts of Texas. But to stay close as a family each year as the family grew even larger they would all meet for a family reunion with all the new grand kids in tow. The farm house had a wrap around screened in porch that slept, maybe 40 people there were 4 other big bedrooms and breezeways that had beds, beds, beds and more beds of every type and size and a bunk house and a big barn where some times teenagers would have their slumber party during the reunion. With 21 families getting together meant there would be a massive amount of food and with 21 growing families this meant that there were going to be a large number of little kids to keep track of out on the farm / ranch. There are quite a few things kids could get into trouble with. Several dangers where a kid could get hurt were all around the farm. So keeping an eye on your own kids was a job all of it own because there were so many things of interest for little kids to go check out. There were of course cattle and pig and horses and ducks, tractors and other farm machinery. There were barns, pounds and cattle tanks, windmills, old farm trucks, chicken yard and gardens and silos. Also one of the biggest dangers that had taken the life of one young child years ago was the old water well that was still used .It was just out side the back door . It was the old drop in the bucket, fill it and pull it up type well. It had a door that covered it and was locked during the reunion. This was just our second time for our young family to come to the reunion. J.R. and I had only been married 4 years and we had our son Ken who was about 2 ½ that year. He was so excited about all the farm animals. He would moo, moo here and peep, peep here and Heeee there and quack, quack here. It was like the race was on keeping up with him. The food was just about ready to be served. I was sitting talking with some of J.R.s cousins and keeping an eye on Ken. Ken was very thrilled to see a mother hen and her 12 little chicks that came walking through the back yard where we were sitting. He jumped down out of my lap and went running after the little chicks. I ran after him telling him No! No! That mama hen will get you , leave the chickens alone. I grabbed his hand and pulled him back to our seat . He was not too happy about me keeping him from his farm adventure and was squirming wanting to go see the chickens. The dinned bell rang so we got up to get in the very long line. I was holding Ken for a while but soon he was getting too heavy to hold .He saw his daddy and ran to him. But like most dads Daddy did not really keep and eye on Ken . He was too busy talking about the good old days with Cousin Ernest . There was so many people and kids of every size and so much noise. One little 2 ½ year old could slip away very fast and disappear . For a few minutes Ken stayed by his daddy but then I look and I did not see him. I call to J.R. asking where is Ken. J.R. sort of looks around but turns to me and shrugs his shoulders and calling Ken name at the same time. We are both calling him now but do not see him . Several other cousins started looking for and calling Ken. We are all moving about the crowd looking and calling him. All of the sudden we hear a blood curdling screams of a little kid but where is the kid and why is he screaming. Then here he comes ken running and screaming at the top of his lungs all red faced and a his mouth as wide open as the Grand Canyon, with mama hen pecking the hell out of his little head and her talons dug in to his back and shoulders and her wings flapping like a vulture taking off with her prey. He is running wildly not knowing where to go .All he wants is his mama and that chicken off of his back. Cousin Judy is fast on the draw and grabs her big purse and starts running. She looked like a wild woman in the killing mode. Several people join the rescue effort and try our best to get that chicken off little Ken.
I never knew a kid that small could run in so many different directions . But I guess I would be running too if a wild, mean, old, mad, mama hen was on my back Judy takes a swing at the hen and misses. She is almost as mad as the mama hen. She is calling the hen every name in the book and most were not nice names. Judy tries again and gives the hen a good whack. Ken falls down and in now really screaming. The chicken is stunned but not ready to give up her prey and climbs right back on Kens back and starts her mad pecking again. Ken is trying to get up. Judy whack the hen again but she will not let go. Another whack and again Ken hits the dust. This poor baby dose not understand why Judy is hitting him with her purse and yelling at him. Judy gives up the purse idea and lunges for the hen with her bare hands .She got her by one wing but the hen will not let go. JR gets the water hose and tries his method or hen removal, hitting the hen , Ken and Judy full force with a jet stream of ice cold well water. Judy now has the hen by one wing and Ken by one arm turning in circles dripping wet. JR moved in for the kill,. He grabs the hen by the neck and all but decapitates the bird. But the hen did let go of Ken but now is being pulled apart by Judy and JR. Ken runs to me in a panic. I grab him up and try to comfort him. His head has a few bleeding peck holes and his back and shoulders are badly scratched and also bleeding. Judy let go of the chicken as JR threw it in to the next county. This was a reunion we will never forget to this day. At age 43 Ken dose not like chicken unless they are fried crispy .
You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years.
It seems just yesterday I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. And yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know I lived them all. And I have glimpses of how it was back then and visions of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is...the winter of my life and it catches me by surprise. How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my babies go? And where did my youth go?
I remember well seeing older people (like my grandparents and their friends) through the years and thinking those older people were years away from me and winter was so far off I could not fathom it or even imagine fully what it would be like, but here it is. My friends are retired and they are really getting gray; they move slower and I see an older person now who is in better shape than me, but I still see in them great changes. They are not like the people I remember who were young and vibrant, but like me, their age is beginning to show and we are all now those older folks we used to see and never thought we'd be.
Each day now, I find just taking a shower is a real chore for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore, it's mandatory! Because if I don't nap on my own free will, I will fall asleep wherever I sit too long!
And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains, the loss of strength and the loss of ability to do things I wish I had done but never did!!
But at least for certain, though the winter has arrived and I'm not sure how long it will last, this I know, when it's over it's over. Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done and things I should have done, but indeed there are many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime....
If you're not in your winter yet, let me remind you it will be here faster than you think. So whatever you would like to accomplish in your life please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!!
Life goes by quickly, do what you can today because you can never be sure whether you'll reach your winter or not!
You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life. Live to the fullest today and say all the things you want your loved ones to remember, and hope they appreciate and love you for all the things you have done for them in all the years gone by.
"Life is a gift to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic gift."
LIVE YOUR LIFE WELL!!----ENJOY TODAY!!!!-----DO SOMETHING FUN!!!----BE HAPPY!!!----BE THANKFUL!!!!!
Now it is time for my nap.
When I first met my husband I was young and had bleached my hair platinum blond. Man! Did I think I was a good-looking babe! I guess he thought so too because he fell head over heals in love with the platinum blond bomb shell, ME!. One day he ask me what color hair was my natural color. I said brown .He said he thought I would look good with brown hair and that he like for girlâs hair to be its natural color. So I thought OK. I will dye it back brown. How ever I did not know much about dying hair and could not afford to go the beauty shop so I tackled the task on my own. I do not know if this happens with all hair but my hair came out green. Well, greenish brown. But for sure not brown like my natural color. But what could I do. On top of being a greenish color it was straight as a board so I thought getting a permanent would be a good idea.
Now just in case you don't know, I warn you not to try this on freshly bleached and dyed hair. Because you hair will turn to rubber and look very brassy and will kink up. When you try to comb through it, it will s >t >r> e> a> c> h. I was panicked and was crying. I did not know what to do all I could think of was to cut my hair really short. So there I am in the bath room cutting my hair as best I could. I looked like an Indian had scalped me. My hair was so short that I could not get my hair around the skinniest roller. Now I was really panicked. I was to have a date that night with JR. He is going to flip out! He likes long hair and now not only is my hair green but it is shorter than his flat top. I am so up set and I know when JR sees my hair he is going to make me cry.
Now it is several hours later and I am getting ready for my date. I am still crying over my hair. It is almost time for JR to pick me up. I look in the mirror. Oh gad I hate my hair! I get dressed and then think I know I will just put a scarf over my hair. Well that does not look too bad. I am ready. The doorbell rings. I open the door and greet JR. He does not say anything about my scarf or hair. We get in the car and start to drive off. Just down the road he asks, what is with the scarf? I said, donât ask. He again asks, what is with the scarf? Why do you have a scarf on your head? I said, I donât want to talk about it.You will get mad or you will laugh. I am not taking it off. JR just drives not saying anything. We get to a restaurant, park and get out and go in. We sit down and he says take that scarf off. I shook my head no. He gets a bit miffed and huffs and leans back in his chair and again looking angry and says, Take the stupid scarf off. I say, OK but you promise you wonât laugh or say anything bad. He says Just take it off. So the unveiling takes place. For about one half seconds JR says nothing and then he says in a loud voice what the hell did you do! My eyes fill with tears. JR says, what happened to your hair? I am blubbering and trying to say, it is all your fault. Then I start the whole story. He can hardly understand what I am trying to say because I am crying and blubbering and he stops me right in the middle of the story and says, â PUT THE SCARF BACK ONâ!
Do I need to say more? My hair did grow back out and JR said many times after that, how he loved my long natural brown hair. He would tell people donât you think her hair is pretty. It is all natural! I never did dye my hair again. I have had my hair all lengths since then .But now days I have long brown hair again. JR is no long in the picture and I am now 64 years old and that old gray is starting to show. I wonder should I cover up the gray or just let nature take its course?
I do not have all the answers but I do have advice. Work at being happy no mater what comes your way. Have a good attitude. Look at what you can do or learn to do, not what you can't do. Find a new way to do things or find new things you can do. One of my teenage friends became paralyzed from the neck down in an accident. She thought her life was over as it was, as she had once known life to be. Everything changed in a drastic way in one split second. Her dreams went up in smoke. She did not think she had a reason to live. She lived to be about 63 years old living all that time from age 16 to 63 paralyzed from the neck down. But she became much more than she ever thought she could be. She became something she had never dreamed or ever thought she could be.
She became several things that she did not think she would ever be because she was paralyzed from the neck down. She became:
1. a wife.
2. a mother
3. a cub scout den mother
4. a woman with a degree
5. a well know extremely talented artist
6. a very talented writer
7. self employed
8. a grandmother
9. a motivational speaker
10. she had a happy life
11. The most important thing she became was a person with a good attitude.
It took her further than she ever thought she could go. It brought many wonderful people into her life. She had to work hard and suffer disappointments all along the way but she did not let her unfortunate injury or her handicap get in the way. She went on with a different life, not one she used to have and not the one she would have chosen but because she had no other choice she made a new life, filled with purpose and joy and happiness. It was not easy but it was worth it. This amazing woman painted beautiful painting some as small as your fingernail with a paint brush in her mouth and she wrote beautiful poems and greetings for cards and even books with a pen in her mouth. Her head was the only thing she could move. and the one thing she could use. Now it is your turn to use your head as if it is the only thing you have to do anything with. You are very lucky to be alive. What will you do with the life you have? It all most all up to you. It takes a good attitude!
