Abusers often turn the truth upside down and make their victims think and feel that they are somehow the bad people. As survivors of child abuse, we must come to the realization that this is completely wrong. Having had bad things done to us does not make us the bad people - it only makes our abusers the bad people.

We need to stop thinking of ourselves as bad people and begin to feel good about ourselves as people. In fact, it is critical that we be able to feel good about ourselves so that we can find joy in being alive, and so that we can begin to act today in ways that will create better tomorrows for ourselves.

Beaumont, great post, as always. You are so right about the lies we were told to us as children. We had no control over our abuse. As adults, we now have control over our own life. For me, I got professional help, and I also read self help books. I got a hobby. I also got a little part time job. What a world of difference all this had made in my life! I have self esteem now, and I will never let anyone hurt me again. Thanks Beaumont for all your supportive and positive feedback. We are not alone. That's how we can get better by helping each other. I always try to help others by sharing my story, and what I did to help myself to get better. I appreciate all you do.

i do agree as kids we had no control over what our families did. i had an old ex friend told me i should have picked better parents wtf!??!? sad how other people blame the victims for "choosing the wrong families" according to them. it gets to the point of why even mentioning your family when meeting someone knew? i have been seeing my therapist for almost a year will be a year at the end of this month.

That is exactly what my singing teacher tells me every week.
I am good. Everyone wants to hear me sing.
She even makes me repeat it out loud.

The abusers try to put the blame on us to make themselves OK with being evil.
