According to many people, children are always resilient, and no matter what happens to them, they will recover and be fine. The truth is that this is only so with children who have a nurturing family and a safe environment. Children who are given more than they can handle in the form of abuse or neglect do not always bounce back. They often suffer bad effects from their abuse.
Man this is one of those times when I really wish DS had fonts. I need to make that triple sized.
What early abuse does is cause children to build a hard shell around their souls. It is the only way to survive the constant assault on the very spirits.
So we grow up only appearing to be tough enough to withstand the torture of the abuse.
In reality, we are brittle like glass light bulbs or eggs. We shatter easily from small shocks. But we learned to seal those up fast so we stayed vulnerable for only a short period.
Many end up addicted to something, chasing things instead of relationships and trying to hide all the time.
