A Child Abuse Survivors Group Community Group
We survived child abuse, but the pain still remains and so do the other effects which can last a lifetime. We are often unable to find adequate help, and we are seeking answers that can help us understand what happened so that we can go on to lead normal lives. (Please note that this is a group for child abuse survivors only. If you are a professional in the mental health...
So for me I drew the line at physical abuse, but only after my second abuser who fell into both mental and physical control/abuse. I am downright dangerous around physical abusers, because for whatever reason I drew a mental line there, my last ex recalls a time I put him in the hospital because he and his friend tried to hold me down and rape me when I wasn't injured, I blacked out, but apparently tried to kill him. Oops.
I have an eating issue because of my abuse, mainly that what I put into (or refused to) was my only control. You can lead me to food, but screw you if you think you can make me eat! LOL! In some of my worse times, I have starved myself down to less then 80lbs, because I'd be darned if they could make me eat if I didn't want to. I'm getting over it, but it's a tough one.
I would say my mind was injured or effected by my abuse. I have to be in control in my life now!
Sadly, my therapist says I know have to relearn how to hear my body, I ahve spent so many years controlling what I eat based on my emotions, and my mind, I honestly cannot hear my body tell me it is hungry. And the control issues are fading, but I still don't eat enough. Because I can't hear my body say I am hungry, so if I get busy, I forget (literally forget) to stop and eat. Sometimes for days if my SO doesn't remind me. I remember to feed everyone else, but I forget to stop doing laundry or working or feeding them to eat myself. Thank god I found a great SO shortly after I left my ex, I might have gotten so busy I'd starve to death!
But, as my therapist would say, it just is what it is. I just need to learn coping skills so I can live the healthiest life possible. But the fact that the effects of the abuse will live in my neurological wiring for the rest of my life really gets me down sometimes.
Thanks again! :)
