Programs for abused, neglected and abondaned children between 6-12 yrs old who are under foster care system.
I didn't remember good chanks of my childhood years, particularly my preschool days and 9-10 years old time frame until my grand father passed away in my mid 20's. Ever since I left my home, I was too busy surviving in the world alone again and through bad relationships, so I didn't have time to start taking care of my past although I had nightmares every night and irrational fears. All I could do was to struggle adjusting to the world around me and establishing some stability. No easy task for a nut like me with no support system :( Anyhow, when my grand father died, I was offered a greif couseling. After 3 months of weekly session, my depression didn't lift. Long story short, I was offered a therapy using hypnosis to help remember my past. I "re-experienced" a very painful event during the hypnosis session. It hit me like a 2 ton truck, and I ended up being in a shock state for the next hour or so. I never forced myself into remembering anything after that. I had a very strong urge to remember everything, but what I learned as I continued with my recovery was that memories would come back to me when I am ready to face them. I feel much safer with the world and people around me now, and it seems like it's helping me to deal with the past now than many years before. I'm taking it very slow.

SNAP is a national self-help organization of men and women who were sexually abused by Catholic priests (brothers, nuns, deacons, teachers, etc). Members find healing and empowerment by joining with other survivors. We are a rapidly-growing all-volunteer group with 2400 members and numerous local chapters. SNAP was founded by Barbara Blaine of Chicago in 1991.

The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) serves as an information and resource center regarding all aspects of sexual violence. It provides national leadership, consultation, and technical assistance by generating and facilitating the development and flow of information on sexual violence intervention and prevention strategies. The NSVRC works to address the causes and impact of sexual violence through collaboration, prevention efforts, and the distribution of resources.
A project of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape, the NSVRC is funded through a grant from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Violence Prevention.
