A Child Abuse Survivors Group Community Group
We survived child abuse, but the pain still remains and so do the other effects which can last a lifetime. We are often unable to find adequate help, and we are seeking answers that can help us understand what happened so that we can go on to lead normal lives. (Please note that this is a group for child abuse survivors only. If you are a professional in the mental health...
Yesterday I bought a white dress shirt at a discount store for $15. It will go with the $9 tie I bought there last week. I need six white shirts and six ties and six pairs of black or gray pants, and then I'll be ready to see if they will let me into the Second Chance job readiness program here in San Diego. It's a program that lasts two or three weeks, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in which they help people put together a resume, practice for interviews, learn how to shake hands properly, and do other things to help people get ready to look for a job. They charge people a $5 fine for falling asleep, $1 for swearing, and $.50 for using slang when speaking. I can't say for sure that they will let me into the program, but I'm going to try. If they don't my next step is an organization called Employment Services, which is similar, but run by the government, and I'd rather be in a private organization like Second Chance than in a government program. It will take me a couple more months to put together my job search wardrobe.
Now how about you? What goal are you working toward, and what specific things have you done to reach it?
I'd like to hear from other folks about the progress toward their goals, so I turn the discussion back over to the group.
Complete - 50%, still working on getting those high notes (above high C) Still having troubles trusting that I am worthy to actually "outshine" the other sopranos by singing such high notes. Working on that every week with a great teacher.
GOAL - just live, tell people not to talk with a mouth filled with bread.
Complete - I can say something. But if they balk, I still back down. Clearly, more work needed on this one.
GOAL - get the kids financially independent
Complete - Daughter is paying for law school alone. Son - has two jobs.
GOAL - Actually have hobbies that I really enjoy.
Complete - 80%. I purchased all the proper equipment to germinate and grow succulent seeds.
Think that is enough for now.
Thanks Beaumont for starting this one. It is good to look over and see things in black and white.
Helped me see what I need to work on and be proud of some progresses.
Other than this: I'm still looking for work as a CNA but I did just get here. I got everything I need paper work wise, and I just downloaded some skills videos to refresh my memory. So progress = good start.
