A Child Abuse Survivors Group Community Group
We survived child abuse, but the pain still remains and so do the other effects which can last a lifetime. We are often unable to find adequate help, and we are seeking answers that can help us understand what happened so that we can go on to lead normal lives. (Please note that this is a group for child abuse survivors only. If you are a professional in the mental health...
I didn't know this was considered a recognized disorder with a name. I did both at the same time for years, with no understanding of what I was doing wrong. I did this when I was in counseling and they neither explained nor helped me. It's part of the reason I was a recluse. It's a part of the reason I had a mental breakdown. I did not know there was a name for it. I would still be doing it but for the fact that I could plainly see I was driving people away and forced myself to stop . . . mostly.
How I wish I could sit down and talk with you. You can't talk about going through hell with people who haven't been there; they just don't understand. They can't. Even counselors can't understand.
Thank you for posting this, Beaumont, many times over. It triggered all kinds of nasty memories I didn't want to look at, but I'm glad to know it's a real phenomenon and not just a terrifying, incomprehensible lack on my part, which is what I thought before.
Yes: a normal reaction of people who have had abnormal unpleasant experiences that occurred over a period of years.
and have become attached to people too quickly in the past. Now I just avoid people.
It never occurred to me that my tendency to keep people at a distance may be associated with attachment issues. I am very friendly but I usually do not get too involved with people. I am single and very content with being single. Many of my single friends tell me I will be alone and lonely. I am not lonely though. I find it hard to believe that one day I will all of a sudden be lonely. As for a mate one of the things that I want is for them to stay in their own house. Living under the same roof is too close for me.
she said how i have isolated myself i wanted to say my parents had something to do with that as well. this is why we are working on social skills she is having me to identity people's feelings. she told me i bury my emotions which i do but i cant stand opening myself up and people who try to be sympathetic were just incompetent about one's feelings which i didnt know until we had discussions. i cant stand meeting incompetent people my parents are stupid and ignorant which makes me end up meeting the same type of unintelligence that my parents have.
i will mention to my therapist i lost my attachments to people when i was a kid as my parents never wanted me to have friends or a relationship with my older sister whom they call evil, good for nothing whore of a daughter and she is far from that. i did tell her how i felt so disappointed in people back in 2010 as i feel they have become a similarity to my parents always gotta fight with me and make me the devil!
Another time I picked blooming dandelion to give to her in class. I ran with them to her as fast as I could, and by the time I got to her I was utterly breathless, and there was sticky milky sap all over my hands. She had a mildly disgusted look on her face as she thanked me, gingerly removed them from my hands and cleaned me up.
I was literally starving for affection.
