As much as I hated my family, I ended up choosing men just like them. Cold and abusive and unloving. Why do you think that is so? It's not what I wanted but the only men who ever wanted me were cruel. The nice guys wanted nothing to do with me. I figure it's because I'm so damaged and nice guys want nice girls who are healthy. I'm very mentally and emotionally unhealthy. So I attract the same. It's a vicious cycle. I know I have to work on myself to become healthier, and two years ago started seeing a doctor and got on meds. But at age 52 it doesn't seem like there is much chance of meeting a guy who will love me. And that's all I ever wanted. It's so sad.
Does this mean I should never date again? No. I said to a friend just last night that at the end of the day, we have to bring all of our Selves to whatever circumstances brought to us or that we create. Since 'wherever we go, there we are' we might as well decide what we want, what we deserve, know that we can handle what we get into... It's not easy facing ourselves, for some it's even harder doing is matter of factly WHILE in a self loving, respectful, non blaming way.
