Hes really intelligent. He understands the game. He studies the game. Hes really good around the box. He makes a lot of tackles.

Green, known as the NFL's fastest man for much of his career, played 20 seasons in D.C. Monk, at the time he retired, caught more passes than anyone in league history. In 2008, they went into the Hall of Fame together. And now they say they've got a problem with the team's racist nickname. "[If] Native Americans feel like Redskins or the Chiefs or [another] name is offensive to them, then who are we to say to them 'No, it's not'?" Monk says. [...] "It deserves and warrants conversation because somebody is saying, 'Hey, this offends me,'" Green says. Monk went on to say the franchise should "seriously consider" changing its nickname. Redskins training camp preview: Safeties

It's shrewd business because Orakpo is coming off a lost season and his value is at a low, whereas it'll be at a high if he dominates in his contract year. It's unclear whether Orakpo is willing to bet on himself. He's been oft-injured in each of the past two seasons. Chiefs rookie CB Commings breaks collarbone Fifth-round CB Sanders Commings is out indefinitely after fracturing his left clavicle on the first day of Chiefs camp. It's not an injury from which Commings can't come back to be a 2013 contributor, but the Chiefs may ultimately wind up sending him to injured reserve. It'll depend on his recovery. Commings (6'0/216) is a big cornerback who could probably also play safety.

More: For extended coverage of the Redskins, visit Hogs Haven Orakpo, 26, earned Pro Bowl honors in each of his first two seasons with the Redskins and tallied 28.5 sacks in his first three seasons, but multiple injuries led to questions about an extension. Following shoulder surgery in January 2012 and season-ending surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle in September, Orakpo is now entering the final year of the five-year, $20 million deal he received as a rookie in 2009. While the report from Maske says that the Redskins are looking to sign Orakpo to an extension "well before" he is eligible to become a free agent, it is unclear whether or not the team is negotiating with Orakpo's representatives yet. Orakpo started in just two games during the 2012 season before suffering his season-ending injury in Week 2. He is expected to be fully healthy when the Redskins open training camp on Thursday. Rambo played free safety during spring practices, so his opportunity to earn playing time is tremendous for sixth-round rookie. Preseason questions: Shanahan often says he cant fully evaluate running backs and safeties until preseason games because of the tackling element. That makes for appointment viewing next month because this position features the most intense roster competition. Shanahan kept an extra safety last season, and this summer there are at least six who could deserve to make the team. Meriweather was never fully healthy after the second preseason game last year. He must prove his knee injury hasnt affected the athleticism that makes him so versatile. How quickly the rookies come along will determine Shanahans roster flexibility. However, its never good when a defense must rely on a rookie in the secondary.
