Pest Control Company Clears Bed Bugs As A Holiday Gift

Compare costs, services for pest control

-- A local pest control company hopes to make one family's holiday merrier. The family's home is infested with bed bugs. Pointe Pest Control participates in a national charitable event called "Taking the Bite out of the Holidays." Company owner Jacob Borg chose to treat one Spokane Valley family's crisis for free. It's a good thing to do for the holidays, Borg said. The service would normally cost several thousand dollars but Borg said the family did not have the money to call a professional. This family in particular had bedbugs for over a year and she spent hundreds of dollar on home remedies, he said. She's tried to get rid of them. They got a family living here - people that are getting bit everyday. Technicians spent all day Thursday working to evict the bed bugs. And in the bed bug business, heat kills. So we are trying to get the ambient room temperature between 130 and 140 degrees. Heat penetrates every crack and crevasse, killing the bugs. Borg said the long day was worth it. To pull a crew off for the whole day and to have them do a treatment for someone feels good for my employees. Pointe Pest Control said the bed bug problem continues to grow in Eastern Washington. The company had reportedly done more than 200 jobs in 2013. Learn more at http://www.krem.com/news/Pest-control-company-offers-holiday-gift-for-local-family-236645691.html

-- Check and compare guarantees. For example, for termite treatment, ask whether each firm will pay for any termite damages that occur after the treatment rather than paying only for re-treatment, how often the firm will come to inspect at no extra charge and what you will be required to do to keep the guarantee in effect. -- For termites, consider extending a guarantee for a year or two after treatment. After that, it is enough to invite a firm out every couple of years for a free inspection/estimate. You can avoid or solve many pest problems yourself. Close off cracks and other small entry points, identify and eliminate moisture problems, and of course, cut off access to food. For cockroaches, you may be able to solve infestation problems by sprinkling boric acid powder in cracks and crevices. Bait stations, such as the popular Combat, Maxforce and Raid, can also be effective. Learn more at http://www.sfgate.com/business/article/Compare-costs-services-for-pest-control-3185213.php
