Hes Number One in the Polls!: CNNs Cuomo Defends Trump Coverage to a Combative Sanders | MediaiteDuring an interview on CNN this morning, Bernie Sanders complained about how much free airtime the media devotes to Donald Trump, while Chris Cuomo defended the near-nonstop Trump coverage.Sanders brought up how one network newscast devoted a total of 80 minutes to covering Trump in the same span of time that Sanders only received 20 seconds of coverage. He argued, "Trump is very smart, he knows the media's not so interested in the serious issues facing this country. They love bombastic remarks. They love silly remarks... This is more of an indictment of the media, actually, than it is of Trump."Cuomo pushed back, "He's number one in the polls, he's highly relevant."He argued that even putting the ratings issue aside, networks can't simply dismiss Trump's growing popularity with the Republican base, no matter how odious people might find him. Please enable Javascript to watch.Sanders did acknowledge that Trump is "very effectively playing to the fears and the anxieties that millions of people in this country have" by demonizing and "scapegoating minorities."Watch above, via CNN.[image via screengrab]-- --Follow Josh Feldman on Twitter: @feldmaniac
