A BRITISH war hero https://sites.google.com/site/republicmetalscorp/ - https://sites.google.com/site/republicmetalscorp/ - was being held in an African jail last night onsuspicion of being involved in a million-pound gold robbery.Alex Inglis, a former Royal Marine, was arrested following an
ambush by an armed gang "carried out with military precision".

The 40-year-old Scot, who fought in the Falklands and Gulf wars,
was 50 miles from his destination when the masked gang struck.

They fired on the convoy after erecting a roadblock. Two escort
vehicles sped away but an armour-plated Land Rover carrying the gold and
manned by Mr Inglis, from Invergordon, Ross and Cromarty, got stuck in

Shots were fired at https://www.facebook.com/republicmetalscorp - https://www.facebook.com/republicmetalscorp - the vehicle's tyres, windows and engine.
The bandits also fired into the air to scare off passing traffic.

Mr Inglis sent a Mayday message and later described how he was
overpowered by the bandits and taken to a secluded spot where, he says,
he was convinced he was going to be executed.

He has also told how he struck a raider and escaped into the bush.
No one was reported to have been injured in the raid. Mr Inglis works as
African operations manager of security company West Coast Allied
Services which ships the gold for London firm Johnson Matthey.

A security company spokesman said: "It was a well executed,
military precision attack."

Mr Inglis, who was saving up to get married, has been detained
without charge for more than two weeks and he has been told he will stay
in jail until at least April 7.

The Foreign Office said: "Mr Inglis is quite healthy. We will
continue to visit him."
