It has been 8 months since Mariee was killed in a motorcycle accident. Seems like only yesterday I said my last words to her. Two weeks before her accident she told me that she wanted to become an organ donor. So, off we went to the DMV to change her license. Never in a million years would I have thought she would die two weeks later. She was rushed to surgery to try to save her, but the doctor came out and told me she would not make it...only hours left. They immediately asked me, "is Mariee an organ donor?" I smiled and said, "as a matter of fact..yes" and the preparation began.... Two days passed and the plans to take her off life support were to happen because she was pronounced clinically dead. Her body was fading....and not much time left to preserve her organs were the words from the doctor. Mariee was a fighter to the end....she had to hang on for 2 more days because of the weather and organizing the donation. 4 days after her accident..Mariee was taken to surgery to donate her organs. She donated 7 organs to 7 different people. All of which are doing well today. I met the 12 year old boy who received her kidney and he is living life as a healthy young boy. I am now on my way to meet the 23 year old woman who received her heart. She is now preparing for her wedding. The meetings are bitter sweet and very emotional. This horrific accident happened for a reason...and the reason I believe is the 7 recipients have more to offer this world, I wanted to take time out to express my thoughts on organ donation and how important it is to others. I am so proud of my soulmate, Mariee. I love you!!
