Today I had to have my brother commited to the VA Mental Hospital. He is a gulf war vet, His girlfriend left him last weekend and took thier 4 year old daughter with her. This morning he snapped. He thought he was on guard duty, and couldn't leave because no one was there to take over for him. I found out that he has not been taking his meds for 3 months. But losing his family put him over the edge. When I convinced him to go the the Dr. at the VA (after an hour) we drove there. When the Dr. seen him he realized from the start he needed to be in the hospital. Donny just kept rambling about many different things. He agreed to be admited, Well, while we waited for them to do it he jumped up and started yelling HELLO HELLO HELLO nonstop and looking back and forth and then ran out of the hospital still yelling HELLO HELLO. Well it took me, security, and the orderlys to chase him for 10 blocks. We caught him and brought him back and the Dr. said Donny you HAD voluntarily admitted yourself NOW I am commiting you. Now I am the bad sister to him. I am the only family for within 800 miles. All I want is for him to get better. He needs help and I know he will get the help. He was like thids when he first came home. But he got the help and has been good for 10 years. Just pray for him, he needs all the support he can get. And, someone already told me He will thank me when he gets better, I know that also. I just needed some support that this was the right thing to do.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
You did the right thing! Sounds like the loss of his family triggered something that was probably already there. And needs to be addressed. The VA has some new, and good programs for PTSD. He will appreciate what you did for him in the long run!
Best wishes!
Stay strong!
