Ever since becoming a vegetarian, I become extremely irritable both mentally and physically if I don't eat every two hours or so. This never happened to me before I stopped eating meat, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced it. Once and a while it is accompanied by vertigo or nausea, but it mostly happens alone.
The method that I have been using to control this is simple, making sure that I have a hearty piece of fruit or protein bar, etc. on hand at all time in case I begin feeling this way. However, I am wondering if there is a supplement of some kind that can help me regulate my body systems so this is less likely to happen. I'm wondering if it's related to blood sugar level, or iron levels, etc.
Thanks very much :)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
One of my friends suggested adding more carbs, and that has helped. I think mostly it's a matter of your body detoxing and adjusting. After about a month and a half, the extreme hunger resolved on it's own. How long have you been a veg? I know exactly how you're feeling though. I'd be fine and then BAM I was shaky and starving. I too, kept a snack on hand at all times. Hope that if you give it time, it will resolve for you too. Again, try the carbs.
It maybe a good idea as previously suggested, to see a dietitian to make sure you are eating correctly.
Make sure you're eating a balance of fruits/veggies/whole grains/protein. I find it helpful to throw beans or hummus in my salad or a serving of PB with breakfast or snack.
Although, if all this does keep up, do get some tests done.
