Sorry to the real vegos who may be offended that I am posting here.
One of my reasons for "going off" meat is that I got a puppy and, being a mother, was amazed at how many similarities there are between baby dogs and baby people. It got me thinking that all baby mammals are probably quite similar. Then it made me sick to think that I ate other mammals, babies and adults. I just didn't want to do it any more.

There is also the global warming aspect. A large amount of land clearing is for cattle. If we were to grow crops where cattle currently graze we would get much more food and therefore need less land to be cleared.
I chose veganism for two reasons: social & health.
Socially it disgusts me that we torture animals for our own benefit. Reading how poorly animals are taken care of before being, um, murdered... depressed me. So I decided to stop taking part in it.
Health-wise... becoming vegan lessens my chances for type 2 diabetes which has ravaged my entire family and ultimately lead to my father's death. I had suffered from juvenile arthritis from a young age. Within days of making the switch I felt a difference. It's cold and rainy today. Before I went vegan I'd be crippled in agony. I'm spry & limber. :)
