I have never missed meat one bit, but since becoming vegan several months back, I sure do miss pizza! Being vegetarian for so many years, I think I really relied on cheese. Cheese pizza was my favorite food. Although I didn't eat it daily (too fattening!), I looked forward to it on the weekends. Just the smell of it baking up makes me hungry!
To make up for this craving, I take English muffins (making sure they are vegan), add tomato sauce with spices, and a bit of vegan cheese (as I mentioned in my "vegan cheese" post - no vegan cheese compares to the real thing). I bake these until they are good and crunchy. They help, but I still miss cheese pizza!
Do you have any foods you miss? If so, do you make an alternative now?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
except maybe butter on saltines. (it was a thing my grandma did for me when I was little).
Other than that, I never really liked cheese when I was omni and meat I got over quickly.
But honestly, if I am craving something I let myself have it. I don't think it's right just to stick to labels. Which I think some vegans do. But if you're really hankering for a piece of cheese pizza, have one.
but do it in a mindful way. Maybe really splurge on yourself. Make the crust and get some good sauce. Then make sure you get some of the best cheese you can afford. Maybe even organic, sustainable. This way you're being responsible in some fashion.
I realize many vegans will critique my opinion, this is fine.
It's hard now to resist all the goodies and baked goods surrounding me at work at Christmas time. Cakes, cookies, candy - but it makes it easy to not splurge.
I'm a coffee lover and it's hard to look forward to going to Dunkin Donuts or other places w/o soy milk. Even places like Panera that make special soy drinks (hot cocoa), I still have to check to see if there's milk in the syrup!
But I truely don't crave anything that I used to eat. Just thinking about eating something from an animal sickens me and I don't want to. I'm really loving the natural tastes of whole-foods, veggies, natural stuff, and it makes me feel so much healthier!
*I'm a vegetarian but I try to eat as much vegan foods as possible. Becoming a vegan is my New Year's resolution. I'm totally ready for it :)
One thing I really miss is sushi! I love sushi and although you can make it vegan, it really is the raw fish part I loved.
Another thing is eggs. But I found a vege restaurant that will make scrambled tofu that is pretty damn close. there is a post up called how do you prepare tofu that says to put tumeric with tofu and add spices to make it like eggs, i think that is what this place does and it ROCKS!
