My husband doesn't feel the "lightning bolt" pain. He describes his pain as pressure over his lip and mostly around his nose. It causes his nose to feel blocked, like he can't breath though it. He tries to hold out as long as he can, but then has to squirt some dristan. He is taking Tegretol, and Tylenol 3. This provides him with some relief, but does not aleviate all of his discomfort. He has also been diagnosed with TMJ and possible jaw arthritis. We had to make a long trip (9 hours)back home, on a bumpy highway.... and it has been worse since then. Does anyone experience the same pain as my husband?
