Trigeminal neuralgia, or Tic Douloureux, is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw. Trigeminal neuralgia is considered by many to be among the most painful of conditions.

Acupuncture

Am currently in pain (severe)

Has anyone tried acupuncture for TN, or any other natural treatment. The reason I am asking this, is I cannot stand the feeling of not being present in my life (like a zombie) of being on Tegretol.

no i havent had accupuncture. i am in severe pain too. with TN and other issues. the tn usually acts up later in the day. but i have terrible leg pain as well. dont know what thats from. i am going to the neuro surgeon tomorrow to see what my options are. i am prob going to have the decompression done. i cant take this. the dilantin i am on isnt working anymore and i am allergic to tegretol. good luck

I've been on tegretol (400mg daily) for several years now. The zombie feeling went away within a month of beginning the med for me. I see a chiropractor for my carpal tunnel (he's trained in acupuncture and uses stimulation to the acupuncture points, but not the needles). I'm still on the tegretol but haven't had any severe breakthroughs since I've been seeing him. I tried lowering my dosage myself by only 100 mg a day before and let's just say that I need all 400. Dad used neurotin on his TN. There are several meds out there. I've not tried any of the others. Like Elaine, my severe pain usually occurs later in the day for some reason!

I am seeing a therpist who is hypnotizing me. I is very nice and helps me relax my whole body and get deeply in touch with the true pain. I am going to yoga and i love it!! It is helping to relax my body (ALL OVER) and relieve some of the side effects from meds. My shrink is trying to find me an accupuncturist now and i will find out thursday if there is one in my town. I am also taking Lyrica and the side effects are not to bad. Maybe you can look into it....Good luck!!

    I have been here before, a long long time ago and now I am back.Forgive me for not just saying what I want to say,even under a triple dose of antidepressants it is still raw and seeping and I am hesitant at revealing it as at least under the bandages around my heart I don,t have to look at how raw and wounded.My child was cleaved from my heart by his own actions. my child of ten,turning eleven...

    theatre and I are there already. I'm having a very berry tea with crackers, cheese and cherry tomatoes and she's having a joint with some beer and we're both on really comfy recliners on thick pile carpet. we need some help with the decor if anyone is around??
