For me, admitting to someone that I have a problem with hair pulling is a big thing, I mean, people have this idea that I'm a strong person, and I look at my pulling as being really weak. So for me to finally go to my doctor and admit that there is a problem was tough. I was pulling in the waiting room, which is odd because I never pull in public.
But my doctor ignored me. He looked at my scalp and said "oh, it looks like you have a rash, get this cream and we'll see you in a month." Uh, hello? A rash? Is he completely mad? Why can't he understand that I was asking for his help? Insted I got ignored and I felt really hopeless.
I'm guessing I'm not alone one this. Has anyone else had similar expereinces when seeking help for trich?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I'm sorry for your experience with your doctor. Sometimes, as hard as it is, we have to persist in getting the help we need. Be your own advocate... don't give up!!! You really can do it. Go with the website in hand and tell him you want to try this treatment. (www.neuroassist.com) I would go with you and do this for you if I could... that's how strongly I know this can work!
Blessings!
My Story:
I've pulled for 30 yrs. Got the nerve up about 10 yrs ago to ask what it was.
Now mind you I have gone to Dr's all my life (but started pulling at 16) and you can't tell me they never noticed while they are checking my eyes and such that I have no eyelashes or brows?
Anyhooo. So I ask the Dr if I have OCD because that is the only thing I can think it is and he says no. It's just a habit and to stop it. Later talked to a NP and she said the same thing. Then get this. Go to a psych because on top of it all I am dx 4 yrs ago with bipolar so I ask him about the hair pulling again if it was OCD and again no...HABIT and STOP......ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!.
Last week I finally get a name for "it" I have searched the web high and low. Found this and another site and am learning.
Have appointment on 29th and gonna shove all kinds of info in his face and see what he thinks. About half tempted to shove his fancy diploma's up his arse.
