I get a lot of questions about things and i thought this would help.
Namely, this is to address the transition process and how to get up and going quickly.
It's written from the mtf perspective.
It's not etched in stone, just an opinion.
For what it's worth-
Other people, you and transitioning is not as difficult as people make out. Of course specific changes that have to occur inside your brain is not something that can be turned on and off like a switch. Because of that there is a learning curve and how fast someone masters that curve will reflect on your success.
In the United States our culture is simple enough; small frame, long hair, clothing choice, demeanor and voice are enough to have someone else believe you a woman.
Thing is, not all women have each of those attributes or mastery of them and you don't have to either, so relax and cut yourself some slack. I have to accept the fact i look like an Amazon. This is where not being tall is a good thing.
Always remember- obstacles require work-a-rounds. So yes, if you had a lot of hair on your face and back it would be a bunch of work to shave it all... and then you could start femminizing yourself. Oh well- it is something you just have to do.
But if you grow your hair out, it is a good start. While you wait, get a good job and save money... you'll need a lot of it someday for surgery. Practice your voice, it costs nothing but will require a ton of practice to not sound like Micky Mouse ...or Mini!
Find clothes you like to wear in public! Sexy things are not likely going to get you the attention you want for a while, maybe never. Thrift or re-sale stores are a great way to do this, it's better than Macy's!
Make-up is an acquired skill. It's also something you will make many errors with. Having the right color foundation is what it is all about when you start- try to get to that point asap. Tons of practice maybe required here depending on your skill level.
Demeanor- when you start you will likely look like a man in a dress but it go's away. Allow yourself the time and variety of clothes to find your look and style... and why you like to wear publicly.
Find a Specialist and get your Hours and Days in on therapy- the sooner you start the sooner you finish.
Know everything there is about your surgery, there maybe a test later to see if you are ready to get your letters for surgery!
And then there is a TON of details... but you will find them along the way. Hair removal, electrolysis vs. laser, blah, blah, blah- remember the life of a woman can be high maintenance...
... but above all, mental hygiene and eating the elephant one bite at a time is what is required to get through every day... IT IS NOT A RACE!
-gotta remember that!

P.S. ...and before you know you will be at the doors of chickdom...
(for those young'ins out there, anyway)

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
