I have been fighting pituitary and thyroid "adenomas", or "nodules" for over 17 years now. I have finally woken up and figured out that the endocrinologist who has been treating me is showing signs of alzheimers, and he has not been right for quite a while... I have had two surgeries before, and been on several courses of drug therapy. Recently I was diagnosed w/"multiple" nodules on the remaining right side of my thyroid (left side is long gone..) and two of these look very suspicious for malignancy per the two endos that read the ultrasound at the hospital. So imagine my surprise when my endo calls me four or five days later at 10 o'clock at night and says, "I don't have your chart in front of me but you've got a few nodules in there, so we'll do a fine needle aspirate biopsy and just do an ultrasound every six months to see if anything's changed." This jack!%$ (pardon my french) didn't even LOOK at the ultrasound, and if I wait six months and it is cancer like they think it is, I could be even sicker than I have been in the past two years(and he hasn't been able to figure out why I feel so bad...) Unreal. So I call his office the next morning as instructed, to get the order sent over for the biopsy-well, it's not there and neither is he. This was two weeks ago, and I still haven't had the biopsy because apparently he went out of town and none of his receptionists would admit that on my multiple calls.. So I am going to Boston to meet w/chief of surgery and not messing around anymore!! Why in the world is a Dr. practicing who is so out to lunch that his care is downright bordering on neglect?? Has anyone else had problems w/their Dr.s like this that has caused them major illness? We all look up to our Dr.s and in the end they are only human beings, and not always that smart-I am in nursing school and working w/them in the hospital setting is showing me not to trust anyone but my own instincts anymore....
