Anyone out there have any suggestions for a 17 year old girl who is now going into her 3rd surgery. She had a thyroidectomy with surrounding lymph nodes removed because the tumor metasticized into them. Then after I131 treatment her lymph nodes on either side of her neck were too large to treat with another dose of radiation so she had to go through ao total neck dissection. She has a small tumor in her lung. They thought there was one on her spine but now they think its a "sports injury". She was hypothyroid for such a long time she didn't do sports but that area is being watched for changes. The most recent PET scan in Dec said everything looked good but when the Thyroid scan occurred in mid Dec, two tumors showed up. The subsequent MRI showed some more smaller ones. She's having surgery next week on the larger two tumors. She's sad. I know that this cancer is harder to kick in kids and its rare. I'm told the prognosis is better but HOLY COW... any words of wisdom for her and for me as her Mummy!!
