I have 3 sons, and my youngest who is now 8 years old. Was born with a cyst in his spinal cord. We wouldn't have known, if it weren't for a small covered indentation in the middle of his lower back. The MRI showed the cyst. He had spinal surgery at 3 months old. The cyst was drained, and he had regular MRI's till about 4 year's ago. When we moved back home to hawaii from seattle washington. I dont feel the doctors here know that much about it. We had a specialist in the childrens hospital in seattle. He just retired not long ago. My son was having bowel problems about 3 years ago. We took him for an MRI, and we found out the cyst is back again! Apparently it is not as big, and the doctor here was not concerned. He didn't feel the need to give my son yearly MRI's, but I feel we should be doing this. I would rather know ahead of time that the cyst may be growing! Not find out after it has already caused nerve damage! We are suppose to watch him closely , and especially during a growing spurt aroung the ages of 10 -12. We are thank full that he has been fine up till now, and hope that doesn't change, but it is still scary! Its like there is a time bomb in him that could cause nerve damage at any time of his life!
