I looked at the NAME website. NAME is National Association of Medical Examiners. This is the assoc. that they belong to if they choose to. Like the ADA for dentists, and similar for other types of careers. My local coroners office suggested that I look at their website. She told me that SUID is the new term for SIDS. She told me that they recently changed it. So I went to the website to look for myself. I found the new recommendation and it was approved in Nov. 2007. If you are interested go to their site and read it. Anyway, NAME makes recommendations to medical examiners, etc. I read the SUID portion. Basically SUID is taking over the SIDS diagnosis. Because so many ME's and coroners, as we all know, dislike the term SIDS for various reasons, many of them will not use it. NAME is now recommending SUID I think to try and get them all to agree and at least put all of our babies in the same category. It appears SUID does get counted as SIDS for the federal government. Therefore, I don't mind SUID at all because of this reason. If it gets most of them to start having some uniformity with our babies, then fine. As I stated earlier it does still get counted as SIDS. Hope this helps clarify SUID.
