Stroke Support Group
A stroke is an acute neurologic injury where the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a clot in the artery or if the artery bursts. The brain perfused by that artery no longer receiving oxygen carried by the blood and dying with cessation of function from that part of the brain.

My sister's brother in-law, who was 54 at the time of his stroke, will never recover, so my sister was told. That was 2 years ago.
What happened is apparently an artery in his neck was weak, their not sure if he was born that way, and it I guess ruptured, which caused a stroke. His son found him and they called an ambulance.
Well, he can't talk anymore, doesn't walk without a walker. He now lives in a nursing home and he does therapy. He apparently had another stroke again, and it doesn't look good.
My question is, I thought most people can rehabilitate from a stroke. Is that not the case. So why can't he? I've seen people on tv shows, that had massive strokes and after seeing them you would never know they had one.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I am very sorry to hear that your sister brother in law was not as lucky. From what I understand, he was lucky to be alive the area where his stroke was is usually not good. He is too young, I am very sorry to hear this. Joanne
In fact, DURING the first one, in the emergency room, I got up several times and walked down the hall to use the bathroom. (I had just woken up and went to the hospital and had apparently had a lot of water to drink the night before...)
But once the attending came back and looked at me and said "You're right, you are having a stroke," no one from the hospital would let me out of the bed.
It all depends on what the situation is. Every brain is different and every stroke is different.
