Stroke Support Group
A stroke is an acute neurologic injury where the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted, either by a clot in the artery or if the artery bursts. The brain perfused by that artery no longer receiving oxygen carried by the blood and dying with cessation of function from that part of the brain.

Hi,
I had a brain stem stroke about 3 years ago.
All my limbs work
I just can't walk unassisted yet
My question is how many years of physiotherapy will I have to go through?
Did anyone else have a brain stem stroke?
My physiotherapist said it can take an additional 2 years.
That's 5 years in total!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I think that everyone's situation is different, and that it depends on 1. Damage done, 2. Location of damage, and 3. Progression of recovery.
Good luck and keep at it!
