I have been dealing with depression for 10 years and am still struggling as of now albeit limited progress. I more than anything continue to get better and find something, anything that can alleviate the pain of my depression.
I have tried playing basketball, reading favorite magazines/books, watching movies, going for drive, and listening to music in the past but I didn't have significant progress from them.
Does anyone know any good hobbies to alleviate depression, improve life and make one happy?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Hobbies? I used to build ship and airplane models as a kid and have rediscovered that part of me again. Only I build 'em better now.
You get the opportunity to participate in helping others while you are helping yourself.
The fact that you have a duty at each meeting gives you a sense of purpose. And you learn and improve yourself in an area that there is always room to grow. Actually you learn in more than one area--the work that you do in toastmasters diffuses into all areas of your life.

Knitting has also been shown to create the same state in the brain as meditation. Of course, this takes a while. At first, I remember being very frustrated with my stitches and thinking "How is this helping me feel better???" But with practice the repetitive motion and concentration on something outside of myself was really helpful. Kept me calm in situations where I would normally lose my patience.
And, last but not least, you can make yourself something really fabulous to help you feel better on a gloomy day!
but make sure you turn your mobile fone off!
