I am a single mother of 2 kids. I work a full time job and never have a minute to myself. My kids don't ever go with their father so I have them all the time. I have had to go to the doctor so many times lately due to stress related issues. The doctor said that I need to relax and manage my stress. I don't have the slightest idea on how to do that. I have always been the type of person that sits up at night worrying what might or might not happen. How do I relax?

I'm a worrier too. I think you answered your own question in your first couple of sentances!! YOU HAVE NO TIME TO YOURSELF!! I have just recently figured this one out. Even if you have to send the little ones to a daycare or something for a couple hours; do it!! You'll be very surprised of the results. The more you worry about things that don't need any attention at all, the more problems you will see surface in yourself. Take it easy today. Move a little slower and let whatever happens, happen. :)

Busybee, first of all-Kudos to you for raising your children on your own! I raised my 3 single-handedly for a few years. My sister has 3 boys-ages 7, 4, and 2. She raises them herself as well. It is not easy job within itself at all-BUT you are doing it! Working full time on top of that is enough to stress out period! Do you have family or close friends that you would trust to watch your children for awhile to rewind or to get other things done? This seemed to work for me and my sister. I understand the doc thing too-I was doing that for awhile as well. Is there any medication that the doc and you could agree on to take to help you relax? Medication needs to be up to you and the doc...but its an option. Otherwise, maybe putting the kids to bed earlier would help. It does here, that's when I have my "peace of mind". Try to continue to keep up with groups, their support is invaluable! Best of luck to you, Jess

Thank you for all of the good advice. I do have friends that have children. I am sure that my good friend would be willing to help out since she knows how stressed I can get. I am going to try and start making a little time at night be mine also. Even if it is only for an hour-anything would help!

I know that it might be hard to take time for yourself but I really think that it would be good for you to start exercising they say that is the best way to release stress. Talk to your doctor about it.

Try to see what services there are in your community. Single parent groups, women's groups. I once had post-partum depression and I found a wonderful non-profit organization that brought a retired nurse into my home (at no cost to me because I couldn't afford it) for the day, a few times a week until I was better. She would do laundry, cook, clean, take care of the kids. I could meanwhile do whatever I wanted - sleep, go shopping, visit a girlfriend. Each community is different so check out what is available - you may be surprised. Hope it works out for you. I was a single mother for over 10 years. I dealt with the death of my mopther and my son being diagnosed with Crohn's the day after her funeral. Nobody came to the hospital for support. I know exactly how you feel. Get help!! Sometimes you just can't do it alone!

I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
