As all of you know, I just had my second stillbirth. I have a four year old son Ryder. I lost Jake at 34 weeks, and Lucas at 32 weeks. When i was pregnant with Ryder i had a terrible itch! I was told it must be pupps, which is a benign pregnancy rash that does not affect the mother or baby. Ryder was delivered early, and he was healthy. it took about 3 weeks for the itch to disappear. I believe i remember getting the itch with Jake, but soon after he was gone. Last Friday i told my Dr, that i was getting itchy again. He is a high risk specialist. He sees me 3 times a week, he is very well known in New York. He said no need to check my liver enzymes, everything looked fine. On Monday I was delivering Lucas stillborn. I have been doing alot of research, and it seems to me that i did not have pupps, but instead had intrahepatic cholestsis of pregnancy (icp) ... which causes stillbirth. There is still a lot of research being done, but it is on the March of Dimes website, stillbirth alliance, and in many pregnancy magazines. I called 2 of my Drs and they dont believe it would cause a stillbirth. My OB is making me fast tonight and take a serum bile acid test in the morning.. it might not come back because the enzymes may be out of my system already, but he wants to check anyway. If this comes up positive, or abnormal, then we know the cause, which he dont believe will show on the autopsy. But again it has already been a week, so results may not be accurate. PLEASE look this up for yourselves, and make sure you are aware of the symptoms ( mostly itching). Get these tests with the first sign Serum bile acid test and liver function test, and if your Dr brushes you off please get a second opinion. I am not sure if this is the cause,of my stillbirths. I have no other risk factors, it was not the blood clotting disorder, and it wasn't the cord. One more thing... I have been monitored 3 x a week. it says "fetal heartrate will be normal just hours before a stillbirth"... no warning sign except itching, and there is something they can give you to drop the levels... Itching is normal in pregnancy... if you are itchy all over, and you cant stop until you bleed, THIS IS NOT NORMAL.. please check it out. I dont want to scare anyone who is trying to get pregnant or is pregnant.. but I cant have anyone go through what i am going through right now if i can stop it in some way.
