Hi. My name is Sarah and today I finally took the plunge and quit smoking after trying to psyche myself up for weeks. I have tried to stop in the past but never managed to make it past a few weeks. I am hoping that if I have support from other people like me who are trying to quit it will make all the difference and give me strength in weak moments. I am also dieting at the moment. I am currently on the weight watchers plan and have lost 10 pounds so far. I still have a long way to go and I'm worried that I might gain weight by quitting smoking. Is it true that you gain weight if you quit? I have heard that smoking speeds up your metabolism and this is why people gain weight when they quit. What have other peoples experiences been? Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I gave my 2 week notice last Friday 13th. Now to join you fine people in a life of leisure and nothing else to do but to look out for myself....is it just me or does that sound pretty boring? My goal was to live to retire and I guess having to take early retirement because of health reasons wasn't exactly the way I had planned things. I just can't stay in that building that is reeking mildew...

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...

You have come to the right place for support and you will find some good people here!!!
One way to flush your system with of the nicotine and make it easier to quit is to drink water, water and more water. Also good for weight loss.
I understand your concern about your weight, I've been working on mine too. But if I have to choose between being a size 9 and choking every breathe and a size 16 while I breathe easy.... It's not a hard decision to make. I will get a little farther in my smoking recovery and then I will use that same focus to work on my weight.
Good luck. I hope I can be supportive and helpful to you
Welcome to the club. The people here are amazing and down right wonderful.
I agree with Retro. Lots of water, suck on hard candy when the craving hits, and only work on 1 thing at a time. I am on day 44 and I know I have gained a few pounds, but I figure Nobody dies from being overweight but smoking WILL kill you. Stay with us. It will make your quit easier. Congratulations, good choice.
You will be doing the right thing and being on WW will help. I think you will find it very helpful here. As a mental prep go back and read past posts I found it helped tremenously. Good Luck!
