The CDC claims that nicotine is a "very addictive drug" that can be "as addictive as heroin or cocaine." Nicotine is typically eliminated from the body within 2 to 3 days, however, physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms may last for much longer depending on the individual. If you are trying to kick the habit, this community is dedicated to giving smokers the...

Hello,
I've been visiting this forum for months now. All of your posts have been very helpful to me, and I am proud to say that I have just passed 100 days smoke free. You have helped me get through the "rough" times, and I thank all of you!
Anyway.... I need your help!
My wife and I now have a smoke free house. :) Wife smokes, but only 1 cigg a day , and she goes outside to smoke her fix ...that's cool!
My brother and sister in laws smoke like crazy...almost chain smoking. My son and his wife cant stand the smell of smoking in the house, and told me if the "smokers" show up...they wouldn't.
Of course we want our son and his wife to join us for dinner, but how do I tell the in-laws that my house is smoke free?
To make it worse..I live in New England and it's getting cold outside, so I don't think in-laws would like going outside for their stupid cigg.
Love you all,
Hank

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
You may become addicted! Tell them that.
I know you don't want to make them feel bad but they should understand since you quit. Lots of people go outside these days anyway.
I don't think I'd want anyone smoking in my apartment now, even though when I smoked I never bothered to go outside. I still have ashtrays everywhere!
I haven't presumed to light up in anyone else's home in at least 20 years. Of course, I used to assume I could smoke anywhere, but times have changed.
Not true...
Ran into someone I work with and spouted off "someone is smoking", and made a face. YES, I'm turning into one of THEM. The holier than thou. I have to shut up.
God bless your Dad. You are soooo lucky. Let him smoke outside. Most of the world does.
I've got 97 days today and I think I smell much better. I am sure you do too. Have a great holiday!
If smoking outside is uncomfortable for them, offer to help them to quit, or at least to point them to sources of help.
Second hand smoke is dangerous, especially to a newly quit smoker. New tissue growth is occurring in your respiratory system and needs to be protected. You would not allow them to spray insecticide in the kitchen while food was out on the counters, would you?
Let them know you understand their need for a fix (you were recently there yourself), but "no smoking in the house" in non-negotiable.
Keep up the great quit, Hank.

We will call them today and give them the "heads up". Better today then have a situation tomorrow!
It's just not the smell of the smoke, but the nasty smell of their breath and clothes.
I'm sensitive to these smells now that I quit. I know now how junior must feel!
Thanks!
If they go ahead and smoke, then go over jerk them up by the hair, and kick there sticken Butts in the ash, then push them outside, that is a joke.BUT IT WOULD WORK Happy Thanksgiving
Just an update on the situation. My wife called her sister last night and her sister and her husband decided to go over to her parents instead.
We will visit "mom" afterwards to have coffee, etc.
Situation was peaceful and they understood. Feel kinda sad for "mom and dad" though. They shouldn't get their house smoked up, but I'm not getting involved with that one!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
