Just know that it all gets better every day... this is do-able and you will be working to keep up your quit. I just quit on 12/21/06 I really feel so much better, much better than when I smoked... never knew I was so addicted and so affected/effected by smoking.... being free from it.... Is living again! :)
Remember - as one addict I heard put it so plainly - An urge is like standing on the railroad tracks. The train is coming at you quickly, the light almost blinding. You feel the vibration in the track, you hear the roar, the whistle blows loudly. You are like a deer frozen in the road. But, at the last minute, you step aside. The train goes by and it is as thin as a piece of paper.
Now you know you can just stay standing on those tracks and that train can\'t hurt you. It will just flip over your head, like walking through a piece of paper. Cravings have no substance.
The very year that I quit, I started volunteering and got trained to teach Freedom From Smoking for the American Lung Association. It helped me to not smoke and get through the aftermath of quitting, although it was months before I could get trained and get started.
I start a new class tonight.
