I quit on Saturday using patches and everything was going fine. Then, yesterday i was lightheaded for most of the day and had like a dead feeling in my arm as well. When i took the patch off that night, i had a rash where the patch was sitting and it is really sore and itchy, even still this morning. Also the dead feeling in my arm is still there. Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, what did you do? Any advice would be much appreciated!!!

I have no idea, but may I suggest you talk with your Doctor.

Sounds like an allergic reaction to the patch. I don't know for sure, but, my husband had the same problem and could not use the patch. Either way you need to talk to your doctor maybe he/she could prescribe something else for you to try.

Sounds like you are alergic to the patch. I put one awhile about a year ago, after a couple of hours it started itching I had to take it off my arm was red and got a welt on it. That lasted for a few days. You maybe more alergic then I was.

Yes you probably have had an allergic reastion. I also didn't deal with the patches too well. Also, something to keep in mind, I also experienced lightheadedness the first few days after I quit, so I looked it up. Basically your body is getting more oxygen than it's used to (the RIGHT amount), so the lightheadedness is a side effect of that, it will go away soon. I would speak with your doctor about the rash though, he/she can suggest some other options, I'm sure.

I had the light headedness when I first started on the patvhes and for about half an hour after I 1st put a patch on I had itchiness and redness but it was only for about half hour. When I take my patch off I just have a red patch but it isn't itchy or sore. Are you using the clear ones or normal ones?? I did find I couldn't use the clear ones. If in doubt see your doctor especially with the dead feeling in your arm!!!!

Well, just an update... I rang the quitline that i got the patches from and talked to them about the problems of the dead arm feeling and the rash and they told me that i am not the only person to have this reaction!(was happy to hear this as i thought i was the only strange one!!) Apparently i should try moving the patch to other places on my body to find where it is okay feeling. This has worked for others so i am willing to give it a try. With the rash, they recommend that i put the patch on in the morning about half an hour before i have a shower. Sometimes moisture still on the skin from the hot water can be trapped under the patch and cause a rash or even blisters!!! Will be trying the patches again tomorrow (1/11/07) so wish me luck on my last and final quit!!!!!

Hi Wendy well done for investigating you patch problem and hope that new advice is working. I have just recently quit and Im celebrating my first week off them cold turkey. I did use patches many years ago but unfortunately began smoking after two weeks. So decided not to use patches this time. Im feeling very good but still having some side effects, sleep getting better at night, less head aches and restless legs are slowly easing. Please hang in there and give up even if the patches dont suit you. You may be panicking thinking oh no if i cant use the patches i wont be able to stop. You can do it regardless of whether you use an aid or go cold turkey hun. And leaning on this site and us is a great help and support.. Take care and keep updating us on how you are going. For the record i got terrible itchy's from the patches and had the most vivid dreams and did find it hard to sleep with them as well bye for now suzie

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
