Sleep Apnea Support Group
Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. People with sleep apnea partially awaken as they struggle to breathe, but in the morning they may not be aware of sleep disturbances.

I was recently diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea adn now I have two options:
1)Wearing the CPAP or
2)Having palate and turbinate reduction surgery
Which is the better option?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Having said all this, I will be going in for surgery on Tuesday to repair my deviated septum, move by turbinates to the side, remove a cyst and remove my adenoids. I do not expect this to cure my sleep apnea because sleep apnea is often caused by other factors besides blockage of the nose. I do hope to breathe more easily though my nose and have far less congestion. A stuffed nose is the one thing that makes using the CPAP challenging.
Give the CPAP a chance. You can eventually get used to the machine but you will never get used to going without proper sleep. Good luck!
I've been wearing a drip pad and the oozing blood has been decreasing. Using a saline solution rinse has helped. I still have enough blood and mucus in my nose that breathing through it is not an option yet. I'm scheduled to have two plastic spints taken out next Wednesday. That is when I should experience the first improvement in my breathing. After 3 weeks the swelling should go down and I'll find out what the final impact of the surgery was.
I do not expect that this will cure my sleep apnea but I think it will make using the CPAP more comfortable and more effective. It may reduce the severity if my adenoids were a big factor in my OSA.
I'm supposed to go without my machine for 5 days. I slept without it last night and was surprised that my sleep was as refreshing as it was. I hope the removal of my adenoids has helped.
