I started using a bi-pap machine on 7-31. I suspect that I've had sleep apnea for quite a while, but it's gotten alot worse in the last year. I wake up at least every hour (without the machine) and my exhaustion was / is effecting both my social life and my employment. The respiratory therapist said the study showed I stopped breathing 94 times an hour and my oxygen level was under 80%. The machine pressure is set to start at 6 pounds and then after about 1/2 hour the cycle changes and the pressures are high (I think they said 24 / 19). So far, even though the machine is humiliating and the full face mask is uncomfortable and even scary, I feel better with the machine. I'm still pretty lethargic and I'm still trying to understand this condition. I have alot of questions, but the main ones are these: How long does it take to actually feel good and to get my energy back? Is there anything that makes the therapy more effective?
