Today being raised by a single parent is not uncommon. About three in ten children live in a single parent home. The most common type of single parent home is one with only a mother. However, single father homes are the fastest growing type of family situation; 60% growth in the last ten years alone.

I started looking for free or low cost activities in our area. I don't have a lot of money so we very seldom do much.
I found that museums sometimes have free activities for children.
Convention Centers and Visitors Bureaus are great places to find activities or link you to activities.
Nature Centers usually have low cost activities.
I found a free nativity play we are going to go to, a museum that offers once a month free activities, and several low cost activities.
I also went and talked to the Chamber of Commerce to see if they knew of anything and received free tickets to "The Promise" an outdoor play, discount coupons on several different places, etc.
I just thought this might help single parents like me start looking for activities that are affordable.

I find that their are plenty of free or low cost activities in a 10 mile ratio of where i live but the problem i have is i dont drive and some of these places are hard to get to without a car ie they are farms etc.. and also out of town so would need to pay for transport which can be rather costly. I don't know if anyone else here has this sort of problem.

Home Depot has a do-it-yourself project each Saturday that is free. You'll have to check for the time.

Some places have online carpooling sites where people can hook up. I would join a parents' group where you can meet parents who also want to attend the same activities and carpool with them.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
