Shyness Support Group
Shyness is a feeling of insecurity that certain people experience while being among others, talking with others, asking favors of others, etc. The initial cause of shyness can vary. Scientists have located some genetic data that supports the hypothesis that shyness is at least partially genetic.

Hi All,
As a child I did not utter one word at school until the age of 7..... I can remember some comments from other kids weird, My Mum says he should be in a special school etcluckily at that early age most kids just accepted thats how I was. Away from school I was OK.. Id quite happily talk with friends and family. Well thats until a stranger came along anyway.
These days its a recognised condition Selective Mutism (see http://www.selectivemutism.org). To this day I feel that those initial school years locked me into a pattern of shyness and social avoidance. Something that I have not yet overcome.
Id be really interested to hear from anybody who has similar experiences.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
You dont have to deal with this on your own there are people who can help Ive had a number of challenging events happen to me recently and Ive found it very difficult to cope. Its kind of made me focus on why Im like the way I am and given me the impetus to try and change.. Ive started to see a counsellor who is helping me to look at things differently.
I droped out because of my shyness.I think your link to the website is going to be enlightneing for me.

Her son is younger but he definitely benefited from the consultations. At his age, the parents were the ones who received advice about how to help him.
They did phone consultations because Jonathan Berent was too far away for office visits.
Good luck!
