Shopping Addiction Support Group
Oniomania (also known as shopping addiction), is the compulsive desire to shop. Similar to other compulsive behaviors, sufferers often experience the highs and lows associated with addiction. The purchase generates a mood of satisfaction, gives their life meaning, and lets them forget about their sorrows.

How do I stop doing this? Does anyone recommend anything?

I tried a lot of things. I've made a chart and tracked every dollar I spent for a year. I made vows not to buy anything expensive impulsively. I try to wait at least a week before going back and purchasing something. I keep a 'want list' of the big things. It helps me feel organized in my head without actually needing to go out and buy them anytime soon. I won't buy electronics unless the item broke and needs to be replaced. I try to think quality over quantity. Splurging on one really nice bag, pair of shoes, coat, whatever is way more worth a bunch of cheaper things that add up and wear out easily. Also, try to understand what makes you feel so compelled to buy things. When I am most depressed or insecure about myself I tend to spend more and then regret more. Instead of going shopping on a weekend, plan a trip to a national park or a tour of a winery, something to divert your attention and still fulfill your spare time. And if you have credit card habits, chop the cards up with scissors!

I agree. It's all about diversion until the strong urge stops. And finding your triggers. What makes to shop. Sometimes if you can reconize what's going on it's easier to stop.

Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
