Shopping Addiction Support Group
Oniomania (also known as shopping addiction), is the compulsive desire to shop. Similar to other compulsive behaviors, sufferers often experience the highs and lows associated with addiction. The purchase generates a mood of satisfaction, gives their life meaning, and lets them forget about their sorrows.

Hello,
I am writing to boast really. I think I am slowly but steadily recovering. I still get the complusions to buy, buy, buy but I haven't for nearly 3weeks. I try to think of other things to do on my day off and whilst I feel a bit disappointed that I havent brought anything I have strict rules on myself. I can look but not buy, if I am going shopping I am taking someone with me(it makes me accountable), I am not allowed to buy an outfit just because I am planning on a night out i am to reuse, I can only buy if I need something because it needs replacing or I don't have whatever it is. Its working. I even write up a budget and am sticking to it and paying back my credit card.
I think this is like weight loss I just have to focus on the end result, the end result means no struggling with money, savings, less stress, feeling good not guilty and maybe even a holiday!
Is anyone else there winning this battle?
Cheers,
Tarmalie

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
But that's awesome that you are working off the debt. It will feel so damn good in the end lol. Really, it feels like losing the extra weight off your shoulders. If you keep up the habit it will be easier in the future to avoid overspending again. I only wish there was a budget that really worked for paying off college...
I just bought a pillowcase, a plaque, and two pins!!!! Please tell me how you else you manage. (Consequentially, my friend goes with me whenever we go out to the book store, but she is more like telling me to buy under 10 dollars instead of curbing altogether!)...
Agg...the battle still rages...Your story has inspired me however :) Keep up the good work.
