After my mother had a massive stroke she laid in the hospital for 45 days. During her stay she developed sores on the upper part of her bottom. At first the Dr said it was bed sores. He used Zithromax and antibiotics and it cleared up. Over the past two yrs my mother has had several outbreaks like this and after about the third one the Dr has called it shingles, I seem to have made a connection with these outbreaks. My mother only has an outbreak in the exact same spot ONLY when she spends time in bed without an adult brief. Something about her skin touching those pads seems to irritate her skin. She will go months without an outbreak and as soon as the CNA's at the nursing home get lazy and stop using the briefs when she is in bed she has an outbreak. She claims it is painless, but I am not sure because my mother also has global aphasia. Most of the time I think she is right on the money if she says she is not in pain. Is it possible that this is shingles or just a skin irritation?
