So Ive just gotten diagnosed with shingles. (I am a 19 year old) Its painful but its not really severe? 75 percent of the time, its just a moderate burning ache. The blisters look exactly like every picture of shingles Ive seen but everything Ive read says the pain should be excruciating. The 25 percent of the time that its not the burning pain, Ive got stabbing pains that happen every few minutes. Those are pretty painful but still not excruciating, or anything close to it. I started itching about two weeks ago, with a burning and tingling sensation especially when I scratched the itch. The rash didnt appear till a few days after the itching started and it progressively got worse as it turned into blisters. At first it was more itchy than anything, now Id say it more painful. However, its also still spreading although the newer blisters arent nearly as severe as the first ones. Im on Tylenol/Codeine, which doesnt help with the pain at all but its manageable without pain meds, so thats okay. Do you think its possible I got misdiagnosed? Ive got a pretty high tolerance for pain but even so...the pain doesnt seem severe enough to be shingles. It does tend to keep me awake but its no where near as severe as it seems it should be. Im sort of afraid its going to get worse and the pain will get more excruciating if this is what I have? Will it get worse as time progresses or will it actually get better and Ill happen to be one of the lucky few who doesnt get severe pain?
