Im still trying to come to terms with being raped by my uncle but do not think these people should be given death sentences. Here's why, Firstly, they should not be given the easy way out, they should suffer for what they have done, so yes prison sentences should be longer for these people. Secondly, i believe that these people have psychological issues that tell them what they are doing is ok, therefore there should be help out there for people to overcome their desire to abuse women or children. And thirdly, people are not taught enough about how sexual abuse takes over peoples lives for the rest of their lives. Im not excusing abusers in any way, i just feel that society in itself does not help. Sexual abuse should be spoken about more and people should be made aware of the issues as young people. then maybe less boys will grow up to think abusing people sexually is ok.

I had one boy say to me he saw females as prey. Typical sexual predator thinking, more common than we think. He was the boy next door type.
Knowing how much this is a part of our culture has helped me focus on working for justice and change and helped me to take all the abuse that's been heaped on me less personally.
