You're not crazy. I feel the same way - like it was my fault for not telling someone or not being stronger or something. I now feel like if i can only be good enough then nothing bad will ever happen again. But if anything bd happens to me or to people i know i feel guilty even if i wasn't there or it couldn't be my fault - like if it rains at a wedding or something - now that's crazy! But i can't get rid of that feeling.

i think everyone who has been abused wonders what they did to "make it happen". But the truth is, none of us asked for this. Whatever we may or may not have done, it was not the abusers right to take advantage of us the way they did.
I still struggle with feelings of guilt though. it is hard to 'unlearn' a feeling.

I often wonder if I could of done something differant or why did I allow this to happen. I have to remind myself I was just a kid.

no it is a pretty normal reaction to sexual abuse. as you go thru the healing process it will get better.

No, you're definately not crazy! I think like that all the time. Like what if I told someone sooner? What if I told them 12 instead of 11? What if I said something else? Why did I let this happen to myself? No, it's not you, it's just the way we think after this has happened. Just stay strong and never tell yourself that you're crazy, YOU'RE NOT! I think a lot of abuse victims think that at some stage.

We did NOT do anything wrong. You need to understand that the abuser is very sick and their brain does not function properly.

The abuser knows and uses the innocence and the fact that a child is often naive to be able to get in there and manipulate them to doing what they want.

Think about this (using a 7yr old as that seems to be the average age of abuse)...Does a 7yr old understand what "consent" is? Does a 7yr old comprehend what "illegal" means? Can a 7yr old do "risk analysis" and understand "consequences" in the same light that an adult does?

So how then could a 7yr old know that the abuser is doing something wrong unless someone tells them before hand.

How many of you as kids were taught about these things? The reality of it is that the abuser knew that his/her victim could not understand these and that only served to empower them. We did NOT do anything wrong. The blame is the abusers NOT ours.

I believe that is pretty common feeling among victims. It's ok... don't beat yourself up.
