My daughter is 11 years old and for the past month has had a problem with spitting up which can happen up to 4-5 times a day. Actually what happens is at no particular time she will get a mouth full of food (or whatever is in her stomach) that she has to go and spit out. She has been diagnosed with SID (sensitive to light, loud noises, ect) and has OT at school BUT I am wondering if this could also be a SID issue. She seems to always want to snack (healthy and non healthy foods)and numerous people have noticed that she eats her food WAY too fast. She will be getting an upper GI next week to see what is going on but was wondering if anyone knows of this happening to anyone else? I have been giving her Pepcid every day hoping that will help, telling her to chew at least 10 times per bite of food and enjoy what is in her mouth in hoping to curb her eating habits. She is not overweight at all (5 foot 2 and 115 pounds). I do not think this is acid reflux but possibly also be because of the meds she takes? (Abilify, Zoloft, Concerta). Thanx!

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Also, however, look to test whether she has acid reflux...spitting up food is a huge sign of having it. Maybe ask a Gasteroenterologist about first trying a small simple thing like 'zantac' to see if it helps, and then later on could do a EDG ( think thats what it's called maybe, maybe not) or soemthing like that similar to those letters the docs would know what you meant if you explained what I said thing this is, 'I was put under w/ concsious sedation, but I don't get why they call it 'concious' you're not concious, lol... And then they placed a pill in the acid area and I wore a little machine with an antenna hooked to my pants and it measured the levels of acid to see whether I had acide reflux, but thats a last alternative...then the pill just dissolves at the end when the machine turns off and stops recording...She would have to be sedated...for the putting it down I mean. The rest from there is non-invasive and wouldn't be a problem...Good Luck! I would try the Z-vibe and tips (can get from achievementproducts.org and the food grinder, also there...and then try the Zantac maybe too ask the doctor.

Overeating can be from a craving due to possibly a thyroid problem... Or sensory in the mouth, a craving for texture, which can use z-vibe and tips for and also they come flavored now too!
Also, sensory diet doesn't have to do with food, but it has to do with the five senses of the body.
It has to do with vestibular from swinging, bouncing balls.
It has to do with hearing: listening therapy.
It has to do with taste and swallowing. Z-vibes and tips, and feeding therapy (done with those things)
It has to do with smelling (not always much you can do with that)
It has to do with touch (surgical brushing, joint compressions)
You can see all this on my website, http://chat1autism.wetpaint.com/ I hope this helps!!

Kris
In my personal experience both I and my two year old daughter have SID and are intolerant of gluten and dairy. There are digestive and behavioral / mood issues when we eat these foods. Our SID symptoms are worse.
Just my two cents. :)
Humm....yes...I know that it is common for pple with SID to have trouble chewing and swallowing. But I think that it is very odd that she never displayed this before and you say that it has only happened in the past month.
What has happened different in the past month?
Thanx.
