I am for sure addicted to watching movie with self injury on them, and spent a lot of time watching some great movies with SI! I made a mini review on them and thought i would share. Hopefully you will share your thoughts on some of the ones you've seen as well.
trigger warning on them all. don't watch them if you can't be safe. But ultimatly the decision is up to you, and it does make you stronger.
So here it goes, i'm sorry it's so long.
Painful secrets (aka. Secret cutting)
Im indifferent about this one. The acting is terrible, and the plot isnt the best. How the actual self injury is portrayed, not the greatest, but what I did like about this one was that it was fully about cutting (and some burning). Although it did a bad job, at it is a least a movie that represents the true problem. Was slightly triggering. Can be seen on you tube.
Thirteen
It was an okay movie. Both good and bad. Does not completely focus on SI, but the main character does do it, and the scenes are relatively triggering. It focuses more on drugs and alcohol. It does have an okay interpretation of being a teenager, although not completely. But in general it was okay.
Girl, interrupted
This was a really good movie in my opinion. More focuses on depression (and other mental illnesses Id say). There are a couple scenes with SI involved, in which I found triggering. One of the characters (Lisa) makes fun of the other girl for cutting, so that kind of hits on a personal level. This can be seen on you tube as well. There is also a deleted scene on you tube that shows Lisas burn scars on her arm. Pretty good scene, slightly triggering, especially if you are a burner Id say.
House episode control- season one, episode 14
Watched this one a while ago. Another show where does not focus SI entirely, but merely involves it in a scene. The patient in this show suffers more from bulimia, but she also does cut her leg. Showing it is triggering. House ridicules her for it, and thus other cutters. I was indifferent about this one, it wasnt fantastic but it wasnt horrible. If you like house, then I guess youd like it.
Degrassi, episode 308 Whisper to a Scream
Really good episode. I really enjoyed this one. One of the characters struggles with cutting. It is realistic in some senses, in others not so much. It is also triggering. It is unrealistic that she always cuts with the sharp end of those angle measure things (sorry forget name!) which in reality isnt sharp and when it does show her cuts they are a lot deeper than what you could actually achieve with that tool of choice. And also she cuts in the middle of the school bathroom. SI is a private thing, and she did it right in the middle of public. Although for the plot it had to happen. But in general I really enjoyed this episode.
Prozac Nation
Really really good movie. Is not SI related. Is mainly only depression, alcohol and drugs related. But it was something I could connect myself to on a personal level and therefore really enjoyed it. The only scene which was somewhat SI related was when the main character was about to cut her wrist in a suicide attempt. It was slightly triggering, but not really because she never actually did it. All in all it was a really great movie.
28 Days
A relatively good movie, which does not deal directly with self injury. Although there is one scene in which the main characters roommate cuts herself, but I didnt find the scene all that triggering. The movie is more about the main characters struggle with alcohol and drugs, spending 28 days in rehab.
Secretary
An oddly bizarre movie, which I enjoyed. The main protagonist begins as a cutter, and on an occasion a burner. These scenes are relatively triggering. The movie progresses and she seeks self injury through a different manner. A certain level of maturity is needed to understand the movie, or so Id say. Overall I did enjoy the movie, and it is a good portrayal of self injury. The end was a bit graphic, but the whole movie needs a certain maturity level anyways.
Fucking Amal
An interesting movie, that only has one instance of cutting, in which one of the girls cuts her wrist. Pretty triggering. The story is more about the one girl who falls in love with the most popular girl at school. Fairly good story line, but predictable ending. But still good anyways. Wished there would have been more cutting as it happened once, and never again, and it didnt even show that she had a scar or anything.. and like no one noticed, so it was a bit dumb.
Manic
Probably one of the worst movies Ive seen ever. The plot is pretty terrible, the filming is so sketchy and terrible, and the actors are even worse. The scenes with cutting were ridiculous. This movie was a waste of my life, and yet I still decided to watch it. The summary, about a guy sent to a mental hospital where it meets other teens with various problems and they all work them out together, seems like it would be good, but let me reassure you, its terrible.
Requiem for a Dream
This was a really realistic movie. I enjoyed it. It was different which was a nice change in relation to the many normal movies out there. It does not deal with self injury. It the story of 4 people and their drug problems. I guess indirectly one point can be self injury. I wouldnt recommend if you have any problems with drugs or anything, it could be triggering that way. And also as a warning the end was very depressing, but realistic.
Fight Club
I thought this was an amazing mind numbing good movie. It really gets you thinking a lot! I really like it, it isnt directly self injury, but I guess that you could argue it is. Indirectly it is I guess. It was a really great movie and I really enjoyed it! You have to be prepared to think though to understand what is happening.
Movies I havent seen but want to:
Dans ma Peau (In my Skin)
Have not actually seen this movie, although really really want to. From what Ive read it is completely SI related, and is very triggering. It is considered a horror movie. The reviews that I read are only from the perspective from someone who obviously does not SI, but I would like to see opinions from those who SI and have seen it. This movie is for sure on my to watch list.
A Slipping Down Life
Mad Love
Little Scars

Today is my 25th birthday, to my somewhat lack of surprise I can see already no one really seems to care. I've always been the kinda person to make sure that everyone I Care about feels appreciated and knew somebody had their back. I can count 4 times this year when I Went out of my way to make sure a "friend" felt good on their birthday, especially if they got left hanging. Its early in the...
its a bit fucked up and may trigger as it has a suicide scene.
but it does partially focus on SI
i really enjoyed it nonetheless.
for some reason, I find myself to be morbidly fascinated with books/movies on the subject of si
it kinda makes me feel not so alone in what i do i guess
1. i have had times & sometimes still do when im obsessed with watching fims like this
2. why are you posting these movies on a SUPPORT page? do u intend to trigger people or give them reson to SI?.
seesawmae, totally not putting you down or anyone who has ever triggered from that scene (it was hard for me to watch at the height of my SI addiction) but when you watch it you've got to be prepared to understand that the scene is one of the most important in the entire film. i am completely in love with that movie in every way possible.
this is actually an awesome list, and im glad you posted it. i sometimes feel like i'm the only one who really gets triggered during girl, interrupted or thirteen.
